The Stagg Inn Restaurant in Kington

The Stagg was built at the meeting point of 2 drovers roads and is part medieval, part early Victorian with a bit of the 1970s. Today it is rustic in feel with a small bar housing a collection of 200 pub jugs and some very friendly gossiping locals. There are three dining rooms and many customers choose to eat in the bar itself. In 2001 we were the first pub to be awarded a Michelin Star (which we have retained), the huge press interest that this aroused resulted in reviews in several national papers including The Times, The Telegraph and The Guardian. We have fed Jonathan Meades, Jan Moir and Matthew Forte and they all enjoyed their food. We were voted as one of the top ten gastro-pubs by our peers in a national survey for a trade newspaper in 2006 and our rooms and food were highly rated by The Times in February 2006 (8/10) and by Paddy Burt of The Telegraph in July 2006. We are Herefordshire Dining Pub of the Year 2009, 2010 and 2011 as we were in 2008 to 2006 and 2004 in The Good Pub Guide then 2012 we were awarded the National Dining Pub of the Year. The atmosphere is informal with wooden tables and no background music. We are very busy at the weekends when the place can be noisy. We have a small bar which locals like to eat and drink in so there is often no room at the weekends to sit for a drink, though drinkers are welcome to join the locals who all like a chat. You can drink traditional British Beer, select a local cider, or maybe a bottle of Burgundy. We serve sandwiches, home-made sausages, or Fillet of finest Herefordshire beef.
