The Trieste 3 area, or Verbano square area, is the area that lies between Via Salaria and Corso Trieste, from Via Chiana to the African district and can be defined as the heart of the Trieste District. The square and the adjacent streets were designed in the 1909 Master Plan. This was the birth of an ornate neighbourhood with five- or six-storey buildings with curved facades, enriched with cornices and small balconies, built around large courtyards and gardens. The church of San Saturnino stands out in the complex of buildings, a brick building dedicated to the saint who was martyred on the Via Salaria and buried in the Catacombs of Trasone. Around these buildings, facing Piazza Verbano, Via Tagliamento and Via Chiana, were built the first small villas, the Parco Nemorense and then small buildings of good architecture.
